Fixing My Tote Bag! Another Up-Cycling Project

Hey Y'all Folks! I'm back again with another upcycling project. This is not really a make-over, but more like a little creative repair.

For those of you who have followed my blog long enough, you may remember seeing this bag from an article I did in January (2013)

I had done a bit of traveling at the end of last year for the holidays, and this bag didn't do too well getting put under the seats in planes. Luckily for me, I always travel with more than one bag at a time, so that I can make sure that my outfits are properly accessorized (wink). Anyway, I had no idea where the pin had fallen out. I only realized that when I picked up the bag at the handles and it was hanging lopsided.
The round end on the pin that held the handle to the body of the bag fell off.

When I got back home, I looked everywhere to find something that would work to connect the handle back to the bag. I found nothing! Other than the handle falling apart, the bag itself is in excellent condition.

This is what I came up with....

It actually cost me nothing, since I already had these items at home.  This is what I did:

  • First, I ran the thin ribbon through the holes and handbag strap using a super large-eyed needle to connect it, then tied a knot leaving the excess ribbon that will later become ties.
  • Then, I made a bow with the thicker ribbon, wrapped the thin ribbon around the bow and tied another knot. That's it!

I didn't want to throw away the bag because it is so roomy and I like it a lot, in addition to the fact as mentioned before - it is in great condition.

I think the little bow on the side gives the bag some added cuteness, don't you think? - Well that is if you like bows! LOL!

Yes indeed, a good working old thing, is better than a new something. If it can be repaired, then get creative and fix it!
