Products Of The Month - August 2012

These are my choices for August.

Simple is a known brand that is formulated for use by those of us who have sensitive skin. Their products are not colored, nor scented, they are just kind to skin. They definitely get the job done without leaving the skin tight, itchy, or dry feeling. This overnight face cream I love because my skin type is normal to dry, and it gives maximum moisturization overnight. When I get up in the morning, my skin feels soft and supple. It is rich, thick, but yet still light, and a little is all you need to thoroughly moisturize your whole face. YAY!! Thumbs up!!

Available online, and at most pharmacies and mass merchandisers. Price Range: $10.56 - $12.99. Container size: 1.07oz/50g.

Mixed Silk by Silk Elements I think is a dupe for Mixed Chicks, nevertheless this product works great. I found it at my local Sally's Beauty. Just like the Mixed Chicks line, Mixed Silk is formulated for those of us who have naturally wavy/curly to kinky/coily hair. This is a protein-based leave-in conditioner which helps to define your curls and waves. If you have naturally straight hair or bone-straight relaxed hair, you can use this as well to create texture. I found that it doubles extremely well as a setting lotion.

It has a really nice clean floral smell (if you can imagine what that is like), and does define curls and waves without leaving the hair crunchy or hard, while moisturizing it all at the same time! It can also by used to tame fly-aways, and smooth ponytails and braided extensions. The consistency is light, and semi-fluid. I am glad that I gave this product a try. I currently do use other products by Silk Elements, and have yet to be disappointed by any of them.

These are the ingredients.
WATER ,AMODIMETHICONE ,WHEAT AMINO ACIDS ,STEARALKONIUM CHLORIDE ,GLYCERIN ,CETEARYL ALCOHOL ,POLYSORBATE 60 ,METHYL GLUCETH-20 ,GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE ,ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE ,HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE ,SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL ,CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS (SAFFLOWER) SEED OIL ,OENOTHERA BIENNIS (EVENING PRIMROSE) OIL ,SILK AMINO ACIDS ,HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN ,DMDM HYDANTOIN ,METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE ,METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE ,YELLOW 5 ,YELLOW 6 ,FRAGRANCE ,ALPHA ISOMETHYL IONONE ,BENZYL BENZOATE ,BENZYL SALICYLATE ,CITRONELLOL ,HEXYL CINNAMAL ,LIMONENE ,LINALOOL

Container size: 17.25fl.oz/510ml. Price: $7.99. If you have a Sally's Beauty Club card, then you will get it for even less.

24Hrs Of Fierce And Tangy With Maybelline Color Tattoo

After creating my look, I tried removing the eye makeup with my facial wipes! Ehh!! It wouldn't come off! LOL! It was literally a tattoo for a moment, until I took my baby oil to it! Even that it resisted a little!

This is definitely one of those that can comfortably be placed on the long-lasting shadow list! Because it's consistency is cream-gel, and the fact that it does not move, it can be used for swimming or any heavy outdoor activity where a little makeup is required - I am sharing that for the ladies who are competitive athletes and have to, or choose to wear makeup at their meets.

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoos can be found where ever the brand is sold. Price range $5.48 - $6

Check out the tutorial video below.

Highlights From Runway Revue - A Prelude To Fashion's Night Out

Hey y'all! I attended this event on August 18th at the Galleria - Dallas. I call it a prelude to the upcoming Fashion's Night Out event which will be held at this same venue in early September. This event's purpose was to showcase the upcoming Fall 2012 trends for the whole family by the local retailers of the mall. It was coupled with the tax-free holiday weekend, so shoppers would have definitely enjoyed that since it was the perfect opportunity to do some shopping - tax free! LOL!!

Here are the highlights! Enjoy!

☺Styling My L-Part Wig☺

This wig I made myself. My previous article demonstrates the tutorial! Be sure to check it out!

Watch the video to see how I achieved this look.

☺How To Make An L-Part Wig - Tutorial☺

This tutorial shows you how you can make you own custom wig fall.

This is not a full wig. You leave some of  your own hair out at the crown, which you blend with the wig, same as you would with sewn-in extensions, but without the commitment.

Now, if you are doing this for the first time, it will take quite a few hours. The first time I made one, it took me 5½ hours! Take your time with it. If you get tired, just put it away and go back to it another time, eventually you will finish the project.

If you try this out, be sure to let me know how it turns out.

Product Review - Andis Aero Mini Straightening Iron

This heat tool's barrel measures about ¾" and the ceramic-tourmaline plates are ½". It heats up quickly to 400º.

Because the barrel is so small, you are able to get the sleekness all the way from the root to tip. Great for straightening new growth if you have relaxed/texlaxed hair, or if you wear your hair in a short style.

The shape of the barrel also allows this iron to be used for curling.

Available online and at Walmart. Price range: $27 - $32.

Watch the demo to see how this iron does the job.

Vinegar For Skin - Natural Skin Care Cosmetics

Clear skin lover? Longing for clean, fresh and acne free skin? Guess what? You CAN have it all! Apple cider vinegar is your solution! You can use this as a toner to keep your skin's pH balance in check. How so you ask? Well let me explain:

Skin naturally has a pH of 5.6. To maintain it's health, it needs to be kept at this slightly acidic level. When this is interfered with by means of using cleansers, cosmetic products, the ingestion of certain foods,  hormonal changes, etc, the pH level of skin can change and elevate, heading to a more neutral or alkaline state. This can result in break outs, and chronic acne. Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is acidic, so it reduces the skin's pH to it's normal acidic level, which is best so that it can stay healthy.

ACV is very inexpensive and can be found at your local supermarket. It also comes in capsules if you intend to take it internally for weight loss and cleansing purposes. Because of the overly tart and acid taste, some people are unable to swallow the liquid.

My skin is normal to dry, as well as sensitive and I use ACV as a toner. I can tell you that IT DOES work! I just dab some on a cotton ball, and use on my face after my facial wash, then I apply my moisturizer. It does not leave my skin itchy, tight, or dry, but instead, soft, fresh and clean. It does have a vinegary smell, but that evaporates very quickly!

ACV also has its uses for hair, chemically treated or not. It can be used after a relaxer treatment to help close opened hair cuticles caused by the chemical, as well as to seal in moisture and help the hair reflect awesome sheen since cuticles will be tightly closed. Sealed cuticles also result in smoother feeling and looking hair. To use on hair, you should dilute it - my formula is 1 part ACV to 6 parts H2O (water).

For those of you who are interested in making your own natural skin care remedies, here are two recipes by JoElle Lyons - First Lady Michelle Obama's skincare aesthetician:

Vinegar & Oatmeal Facial Scrub

Ingredients

30ml/2 tbsp fine oatmeal

30ml/2 tbsp salt

5ml/1 tsp sweet almond oil or avocado oil

5ml/1 tsp cider vinegar

1. Mix the fine oatmeal with the salt and sweet almond oil or avocado oil in a bowl. When thoroughly combined, stir in the cider vinegar.

2. Wash the face with hot (as hot as you can stand) water and mild cleanser, pat dry, leaving the skin moist.

3. Gently exfoliate with the scrub, working around the nose and chin, up the cheeks and across the forehead. Avoid the delicate areas around the eyes.

4. Rinse well with hot (as hot as you can stand) water and pat dry.

Exfoliating Lemon Juice & Olive Oil Masque (oily skin and blackheads)

Ingredients

30ml/2 tbsp oatmeal

30ml/2 tbsp yogurt

15ml/1 tbsp lemon juice

15ml/1 tbsp olive oil

1. Place all the ingredients into a small bowl and mix well to make a paste.

2. Smooth the mask over the face.

3. Leave for 10 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.

Always remember, fashion and hair trends will come and go, but good skin is NEVER out of style!

Yes, you can make this yourself! Tube tops are always popular and can be worn alone as well as part of a layered look. Now that it is hot, less clothes seems to make sense! LOL!

Check out my tutorial to see how you can make yourself one of these. For this tutorial, I used jersey cotton, but you can use what ever fabric you like. Lightweight ones are the best for this kind of look.

Passing On The One Lovely Blog Award!

When I first started my blog back in March 2012, SpecialK was kind enough to present me with this virtual award! (She has been a loyal supporter since!) My blog was a month old, and I don't think anyone was reading my articles then. It served as encouragement for me to keep writing. This blog award is specifically for bloggers who don't have lots of members!

Today, I have 13 members (local and international) and my articles are being read everyday by quite a few people. YAY!!!

The requirements of being a recipient of this award is that you have to pass it on to other bloggers who follow your blog, as well as state 7 random facts about yourself. I didn't know anyone to pass it on to who had not received it before, but I do now!

The two active bloggers whom I have chosen to receive this award are:

Please do check out these three lovely beauty bloggers' blogs.
