This event was held at Social 121, Frisco, Texas. It was a charitable one which benefited the North Texas Thyroid Awareness Foundation founded by NaKisha Ortiz.

Attendees were treated to a sneak peak of the Carolina Herrera CH Spring/Summer - 2012 collection, followed by a shopping event at the Carolina Herrera Boutique at North Park Mall, Dallas.

At the shopping event which was held two days later (May 12th), patrons were able to view the full collection, enjoy tasty gourmet hors d'oeuvres, as well get 10% off of their purchases! Part proceeds were donated to the NTTAF.

Thyroid disease is a medical condition that can hinder the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism (under-activity), and hyperthyroidism (over-activity), can result in several different impairments of the thyroid gland.

You can do a self-test to examine your thyroid, but it is ALWAYS recommended that you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Here's how to quickly examine your thyroid:

  1. Hold the mirror so that you can see the area of your neck just below the Adam's apple and right above the collarbone. This is the general location of your thyroid gland.
  2. Tip your head back, while keeping this view of your neck and thyroid area in your mirror.
  3. Take a drink of water and swallow. As you swallow, look at your neck. Watch carefully for any bulges, enlargement, protrusions, or unusual appearances in this area when you swallow.
  4. Repeat this process several times. If you see any bulges, protrusions, lumps or anything that appears unusual, see your doctor right away. You may have an enlarged thyroid, or a thyroid nodule, and your thyroid should be evaluated.

Important: Do not confuse your Adam's apple with your thyroid gland. The Adam's Apple is at the front of your neck, the thyroid is further down, and closer to your collarbone.
